Leaving London

Now that I am wrapping up my time in London I just wanted to share some thoughts and pictures of my two weeks here. I must start of by saying the weather is so completely unpredictable, oh my goodness! I’ve experienced sizzling summer heat, monsoon like rainy days, suffocatingly thick, chilly fog and everything in between! Not what I expected in May/June. Nonetheless it has been a lovely time.

Always wanted to do that

My favorite thing about London so far has been the variety of social activities available from the chic to the quirky, to the well…I’ll let you decide. Here are a few that caught my attention. Rooftop film club, where you watch movies projected to a screen, with wireless headphones while seated on the roof of a building. Night time city tour on roller blades lol (I really wanted to try this), nude night clubs (not my thing, but hey) and of course the great theatre performances and shows, the innumerable pubs, clubs and bars with all different themes and on every corner. Of course my hip hop karaoke, and the list goes on and on!

Tours along River Thames

There are still some cities I haven’t had the chance to visit yet but hope to be able to when I return. For now, it’s time to move on, especially before I run out of money. I have easily spent the most on transportation here, unbelievable when you consider I have mostly been on trains and buses and only one taxi ride that was about a mile. So enjoy a few photos and to see more visit my Facebook page Travel With Jodi.

The Birthday Blog

Birthday Girl!!

Birthday Girl…me!

Another year under my belt, somehow I feel I should be a little more excited about that!  But knowing that it’s my last year in my twenties is, well… kinda sad! I know I know, it may sound kinda silly but I can’t help it. Yes, I know I should be grateful for another year of life and believe me I know how blessed and fortunate I am, but why do I feel like I am getting so old so fast?!!! Hmmmm but like my uncle says you either get old or die young! So I really should be happy and I quite frankly prefer the former.

On the approx 1 hr train ride to Dover 36 pounds

So all that aside what did I do you wonder? I hopped on a train in London with my cousin, and headed south to Dover the south coastal city of England. Here you are able to take a ferry across the waters to France.  I wanted to go to Dover Castle and also see the white chalk cliffs of Dover. Now I did get to go to the castle, and I did see a lot of white, but unfortunately the white was fog not cliffs. The fog was so thick it seemed as if multiple bonfires were taking place but with an unknown source. Honestly not what I expected but somehow found it so exciting.

White cliffs covered in fog

Okay and I know the last time I complained about being hot everywhere, that was not a problem today! There was definitely a chill in the air and I don’t think I was really properly prepared but it did put a good pep in my step lol. However, the charm and friendliness of the locals in this little town provided the warmth my apparel lacked.  It was matched only by the charm of the place itself. It looked exactly the way I imagined England to look before arriving. I felt this is where I would want to live if I were to reside here. Well from what I’ve seen so far.

Cute residential area outside of train station in Dover

Dover Castle though was just lovely, and there are flowers everywhere in England it seems. We did two tours while there, one in the underground hospital that once existed there during WWII and another of tunnels that housed all other military operations. I illegally tried to take a few non flash pics (the things I do for you guys) but they didn’t really come out well. It was a fun and very real life tour, that really tries to engage the senses to make you feel what it would have been like then.

Dover Castle 16.50 pounds entrance fee

I will have to return on a clear day to get some pictures of the white cliffs. All in all a lovely day! Off to Cambridge on Friday can’t wait to report that one to you guys. Now I’m off to exercise the vocal chords, I have hip hop karaoke tomorrow ;)

How foggy it was by the end
